Strategic Priorities

An in-depth strategic planning process, launched in September 2021, assessed Harvard School of Dental Medicine’s most critical needs and led to key priorities that will provide a roadmap for our school for the next three-five years.

These priorities will enrich HSDM’s strong educational, research, and clinical programs and engage our community in a shared mission that will lead us well into the future.

Sept 2021

Strategic Planning Process Begins

Leadership retreat in September 2021 establishes planning roadmap and visioning framework for HSDM’s renewed mission and vision.

Discovery and Goal Setting Phase

Four working groups in areas of Research, Education, Community, and Clinical Care engage in intense discovery and SWOT exercises to identify pressing areas of attention and opportunity. Dean Giannobile presents his vision in an October community-wide town hall forum.

Stakeholder Input

The HSDM community of faculty, staff, postdoctoral fellows, students, alumni, and friends engage through survey tools and focus sessions with and guide the emerging strategic framework of priorities. Over 500 members of our community engage in strategic dialogue and feedback channels.

Priority Identification and Consolidation

HSDM leadership narrowed multiple strategic opportunities into 4 critical areas of focus and 12 signature initiatives as a collective guiding light for the next 5 years. Core planning committee leaders present emerging framework in a community-wide town hall.
