Culture of Care

Revitalizing the patient experience and access to care

HSDM is committed to fostering a patient-centered, highly-functional and productive clinical model that provides the best care for our patients and the best learning model for our students. Modernizing our clinical model will allow us to advance clinical innovation, and set the standard of care in all disciplines at HSDM. We aim to develop top clinicians, provide a competitive clinical environment for faculty to develop their intramural practice, and become a world recognized hub for oral health care delivery and oral health policy/advocacy.

Promote training excellence

With a renewed vision for our clinical environment, we will expand teaching practice opportunities and invest in state-of-the-art clinical equipment to promote clinical training excellence and innovation. Within our predoctoral (DMD) curriculum, we will introduce earlier access to preclinical and clinical experiences for students to heighten the rigor of hands-on training.

Within our Advanced Graduate Education (AGE) programs, we will expand class sizes and build on HSDM’s strong reputation of producing Harvard trained leaders in dental specialties. To achieve this, HSDM will also increase recruitment of volunteer faculty from our community of alumni and local clinicians to enrich the trainee’s access to dynamic instruction.

Advance translational research in oral health care delivery and policy

HSDM will support and encourage the development of innovations in patient care by promoting clinical and translational research to advance oral health.

We will continue to expand our community partnerships outside of the School to expose and encourage training experiences in local communities including those serving the most vulnerable.

Community partnerships

We’re invested in our local community and improving access to care through efforts such as Action for Children and Teens in Oral Health Need program, externship programs in community health centers, and annual days of free care offered through Give Kids a Smile and Give Veterans a Smile programs. These programs enrich both the student and patient experience.
