Advancing HSDM as a global leader in research and clinical education

Harvard School of Dental Medicine (HSDM) ranks as one of the top schools of dental medicine in the nation and the world. With a curriculum that brings together oral health and medicine and boasts key strengths in oral and craniofacial research, and oral health policy, we must be poised to attract the next generation of talented students, faculty, and scientists.

Recruit, retain, & develop faculty leaders

The call to bolster the faculty at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine has never been more urgent. Teaching and learning is core to the mission of HSDM, and strengthening our pool of talented and diverse full-time and part-time faculty furthers our ability to do so. Bolstering our faculty commitment impacts not only teaching and learning, but also research activities and clinical service to the community.

As the only Harvard school with an on-site clinical care facility, HSDM is poised to leverage its environment and infrastructure to advance impactful translational research programs, develop novel technologies and delivery methods, and demonstrate our commitment and capabilities to promote and advance medical-dental integration.

Fueling new discovery

New pilot grant funds have gone toward research that explores using machine learning to predict tooth loss, investigations into how bacterial toxins trigger acute pain, research into new therapeutic pathways for the treatment of periodontitis, and state-of-the-art equipment to advance the understanding of peri-implant health and wound healing, among other bold research pursuits.
